Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was reportedly impressed by the performance of Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Nigerian winger took centre stage after inspiring the Yellow Submarine to a 3-2 comeback victory with two goals, which included a belter of a winning strike.
Not only were the home fans stunned by Chukwueze’s heroics, but Madrid president Perez also took note of his performance.
According to Radio Marca, Perez discussed with Villarreal president Fernando Roig the possibility of Chukwueze’s transfer to Madrid this summer.
The 23-year-old’s contract with Yellow Submarine expires in 2024. He could be acquired for a fee lower than his reported clause worth €100 million if he wants to leave.
Madrid are considering an offer worth around €50m for the Nigerian winger, and Perez has entertained the idea of deploying him alongside Vinicius Junior next season.
There could be a need for attacking reinforcements this summer, with Marco Asensio’s future hanging in the balance while Mariano Diaz is also set to leave Bernabeu.
Asensio appears to be torn between the idea of extending his contract or calling it quits with the defending European champions.
Although the Spaniard thinks he has a promising future at Bernabeu, he feels Madrid’s offer is inadequate.
The growing reports of a possible return of Brahim Diaz have also raised doubts over Asensio’s position.
Chukwueze, who has bagged 13 goals and 11 assists this season, could be tempted to join Madrid where he would have the chance to win major silverware.
