Jorginho opens up on leaving Chelsea for Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has revealed why he left Chelsea during the January transfer window.

The Italy international completed a shock deadline-day move to north London for an initial £10 million with a further £2m in add-ons.

In a recent interview with DAZN (h/t the Daily Mail), Jorginho stated that he left Chelsea having fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

“I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans,” Jorginho said.

“Sometimes you must accept when you are out of a project and that things come to an end.

“I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me.

“It is a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics – I considered every scenario and made the decision.”

Jorginho also highlighted the importance of working under Mikel Arteta to his decision to move to the Emirates Stadium.

“It’s one of the reasons, surely,” Jorginho added.

“He called me and it was all very quick – we made the deal in less than 48 hours.”

Off the back of a rough start to life which saw him fail to win any of his opening three matches, Jorginho starred for Arsenal in their thrilling 4-2 victory over Aston Villa last time out.

Despite winning every available trophy outside England during his time at Chelsea, Jorginho is yet to claim a league title, but the 31-year-old is on course to break that duck with his new employers.

Arsenal currently sit two points clear at the top of the Premier League standings with a game in hand on nearest challengers Manchester City.

The Gunners visit the King Power Stadium to face off against Leicester City in their next league outing on Saturday before they play host to Everton four days later.
