Manchester United are interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson, according to the Daily Mail.
United will not attempt to keep Wout Weghorst at the club after an unimpressive six-month loan spell in which he has scored only twice in 20 appearances.
The Dutchman will return to Burnley at the end of the season.
Back-up striker Anthony Martial is injury-prone and an unreliable option for United. His contract ends in 2024 and his future with the club is uncertain.
United want to bring Ferguson and another experienced striker to Old Trafford.
Ferguson has burst onto the scene with four goals and two assists in 12 Premier League games.
He has bagged one goal and one assist in two League Cup games. He has also bagged three goals in four FA Cup appearances.
Ferguson has earned praise from Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe.
The 18-year-old has inevitably attracted the attention of top English clubs. They are circling despite Ferguson being contracted until 2026.
United want the towering striker, but they are not the only suitors. Tottenham Hotspur also like Ferguson and want to take him to London.
However, United and Tottenham may have to look elsewhere for strikers, with Brighton unwilling to let Ferguson leave.
Coincidentally, United want Tottenham’s Harry Kane to be their first-choice striker while Ferguson plays back-up to the England international.
However, that will be difficult with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reluctant to sell Kane.
Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are also monitoring Kane’s situation.
