Erik ten Hag hails Man Utd midfield trio for Brentford performance

Erik ten Hag has hailed Manchester United’s midfield trio for their respective performances against Brentford in the Premier League last night.

With Casemiro and Christian Eriksen out of action, Ten Hag went with Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcel Sabitzer in midfield.

They performed well against in-form Brentford. Sabitzer assisted Marcus Rashford for the only goal of the game – his 28th of the campaign.

Ten Hag said (via Man Utd’s website): They (Casemiro and Eriksen) are two very important players for us.

“Don’t get me wrong, but we have a good squad. Also today, brilliant midfield occupation with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. Marcel Sabitzer, in his role, was very good.

“I can’t say this midfield trio was bad – not at all. It was very good.”

Eriksen is back in training after an ankle injury inflicted by Reading’s Andy Carroll during an FA Cup clash in February.

Ten Hag said he is training, but they must monitor him over the final sessions. He will then decide if Eriksen should be in the squad at home to Everton on Saturday.

This will be the final game of Casemiro’s suspension. The Brazilian will return for their clash with Nottingham Forest on April 16.

The 1-0 win over Brentford was a massive relief for the club after recent poor performances.

After winning the League Cup against Newcastle United, United lost 7-0 to Liverpool in a hapless performance at Anfield.

They drew against bottom-placed Southampton, and Newcastle got revenge over them in a 2-0 win.

The Red Devils beat Fulham in the FA Cup to advance to the semi-finals, but it was not smooth sailing.

The victory over Brentford has calmed United’s nerves ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.
