PSG close to parting ways with Lionel Messi in the summer

Lionel Messi’s future at Paris Saint-Germain looks bleak with every passing day as rumours of his potential exit in the summer continue to do rounds.

According to a new report from L’Equipe, PSG are no longer considering Messi’s contract extension viable, and they are ready to sever ties with him.

Messi’s current deal expires this summer, and the contract talks have been stalled since PSG’s elimination from the Champions League against Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

The Argentine World Cup winner is biding his time to decide on his future at the French capital as he wants a clearer picture of PSG’s project for next season.

However, Les Parisiens are ready to get him off their books unless he agrees to reduce his wages.

PSG have been tasked with balancing their books ahead of the new season, as they fear they could face sanctions for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Messi is among the top earners in the French capital, and getting the veteran playmaker off their books would relieve the pressure on their finances.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was jeered by PSG faithful during the recent Ligue 1 game against Lyon, which has added more uncertainty to his future.

French legends Emmanuel Petit and Thierry Henry have advised Messi to leave Parc des Princes, as they feel he is not being treated well.

Barcelona are reportedly tracking the situation of their former star as they want to reunite with him this summer.

Barca manager Xavi is pushing for the deal and has been in regular talks with Messi to discuss the possibility of returning to Camp Nou.
