‘I am very sorry to him’ – Heung-min Son reacts to Antonio Conte sacking

Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-min Son has given his thoughts on the club’s decision to sack Antonio Conte.

Off the back of a poor run of results which saw Spurs exit two cup competitions and drop crucial points in their top-four race, Conte publicly lashed out at his players earlier this month.

The Italian manager lost his job and has since been replaced by Cristian Stellini.

While a section of the Tottenham players was reportedly glad to see Conte go, Son has claimed he feels responsible for Conte’s dismissal and wishes his former boss the best going forward.

“He is a world-class manager – we had a great journey together, I thank him a lot,” Son was quoted saying by the Telegraph.

“I do not know how other players are thinking about him, but I’m sorry to him.

“I should have shown more, but I couldn’t – I couldn’t help the team and I feel responsible as he left the club.

“He surely has great ability and experience as a coach and I’m sure he’ll have great success in his other career.”

With just ten goals scored in 37 appearances across all competitions, it is refreshing to see a player of Son’s quality admit that he hasn’t been up to full speed this term.

The 30-year-old is now looking forward to the remainder of the season as he aims to wrap up on a high.

“Coming back to Spurs, I wish to finish the rest of the season in a great way with my teammates, for our club,” he added.

Son scored two goals in as many matches for South Korea during the international break and the 30-year-old will seek to continue his recent upturn in form on Monday when Spurs play host to Everton.
