Man Utd midfielder Christian Eriksen out for Brentford clash despite being close to return

Manchester United attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen will miss his side’s midweek clash against Brentford, the club has announced.

The Dane has been out of action for around two months after sustaining an ankle injury during his side’s 3-1 FA Cup victory over Reading.

Eriksen took a hefty challenge from Andy Carroll, who tried to amputate as many United players as possible. The midfielder left the pitch in crutches due to the blow to his ankle.

Fans pictured the former Inter Milan man wearing a grey protective boot and using two crutches after the game.

Eriksen has missed several crucial matches for the Red Devils since then. The fans can’t wait to have him back and were delighted when he hinted that he is close to a return.

Despite recovering from the ankle injury, the 30-year-old is still not ready for competitive game time but could return for the weekend clash against Everton.

United have missed the control that Eriksen brings to games and hope to have him back soon.

They need a response to their 2-0 loss to Newcastle United this weekend. The Magpies were the better side for much of the game.

Joe Willock missed two chances to open the scoring before heading home Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross to give his side the lead.

Callum Wilson ensured the win for the Magpies, who wanted revenge following Man United’s League Cup final win over them.

The loss means that United are winless in their last three Premier League games since that success. They have lost 7-0 to Liverpool and drew with bottom-placed Southampton.

However, they have since advanced in the Europa League and FA Cup.

United manager Erik ten Hag knows his side needs to turn things around soon. A result against in-form Brentford could restore some optimism at Old Trafford after some poor recent results.
