Napoli have confirmed that star striker Victor Osimhen has been nursing an adductor injury since his return from the international break.
The Nigerian will be unavailable for the weekend’s Serie A clash against AC Milan.
A statement from the club’s official website read: “Osimhen, since his return with the national team, accusing a nuisance in his left adductor, underwent tests which showed a distractive injury. His condition will be evaluated next week.”
Osimhen’s absence will be a massive blow for the Partenopei, given his tremendous impact this season.
The 24-year-old leads Serie A’s top scorers list with 21 goals. He has also bagged five goals in four Champions League games.
Osimhen has been one of the pivotal figures behind the Neapolitans’ staggering run in Serie A and Europe.
Luciano Spalletti’s are 19 points clear at the top of the table and have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Napoli will be worried about whether the former Lille man will recover quickly with a decisive month ahead.
The Partenopei will lock horns with Rossoneri again in the UCL quarter-finals first leg on April 13, and they can’t afford to miss Osimhen for that clash.
Giovanni Simeone will look to grab the opportunity in Osimhen’s absence, and the Argentine striker has shown his quality even with limited chances.
Spalletti also has another trump card in Giacomo Raspadori, who will be available for Sunday’s clash after recovering from injury.
More onus will be on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has been in thunderous form this season.
