Chelsea interested in signing Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde

Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde, reports Sport.

The teenage sensation has been in fine form since breaking into the Blaugrana first team this term.

Balde has pipped veteran Jordi Alba to the starting berth at left-back and has also featured at right-back.

The 19-year-old is out of contract in 2024 and Barca have been trying to extend his deal.

They want to hand him a new three-year deal, but both parties have not reached an agreement.

Balde’s agent Jorge Mendes wants him to remain with the Camp Nou club.

However, the Portuguese wants his client to be rewarded with improved terms which reflect his importance.

The La Masia graduate has five assists in 30 games across all competitions.

Balde has also become a full Spanish international, featuring in four games during the World Cup in Qatar.

Chelsea have been impressed with his performances and could launch a move in the summer.

The Blues are dissatisfied with both Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell.

Both have four assists in 37 league games between them.

Cesar Azpilicueta could leave Chelsea at the end of the season, and signing another full-back would be useful.

Barca are in dire straits financially and may be tempted to cash in on Balde.

They need to balance the books and could struggle to meet the salary demands of the youngster.

As a result, selling him could make sense for both parties, and Chelsea have the cash to splash.

They have heavily recruited since the new owners arrived and could do so again in the summer.
