Luis Diaz returns to Liverpool training ahead of Manchester City clash

Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz featured in Liverpool training at Melwood today to give the club a massive boost ahead of the final lap of the Premier League season.

Diaz has been out of action with a knee injury since the beginning of October 2022. He was due to return in December before suffering a setback that extended his time on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old has been doing individual drills and training but only joined the first team today.

The Merseyside club have missed the former FC Porto man’s dynamic dribbling from the left flank.

Despite joining halfway through last season, he was arguably their best player.

Liverpool take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in their first game after the international break.

Diaz is unlikely to start, but he could make the bench as Liverpool start their bid to break into the top four in the last 12 games of the season.

After visiting Man City, Liverpool play Chelsea and Arsenal in their next two games. They need all the help they can get on the pitch during that run.

Darwin Nunez is another previously injured star now available to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The attacker suffered a cut ankle in his side’s loss to Real Madrid in Spain.

He missed Uruguay’s games against South Korea and Japan over the international break. He returned to the club, where their medical department assessed him.

Cameras caught him walking out for the first-team training today and he could start against City.

However, there was no sign of midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard suffered a hip injury in February and was ruled for four weeks but is still not back.
