Atletico Madrid make contact with Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos

Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos and have made contact with the Spanish international, reports Marca.

Los Rojiblancos have been monitoring Ceballos’ situation and have not stepped up their pursuit.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a revival this season, earning the trust of the first-team manager Carlo Ancelotti to become an integral part of the squad.

After spending nearly the entire 2021/22 season on the sidelines with a long-term ankle injury, Ceballos is now brimming with confidence, having made 31 appearances in all competitions.

The former Real Betis star was instrumental in Los Blancos qualifying for the semi-finals of Copa del Rey, producing some impressive displays against Villarreal and Atletico Madrid in the knockout rounds.

He also played a big part in the FIFA Club World Cup triumph, providing an assist in each of the semi-finals and finals.

Ceballos’ upturn in form has also made Madrid reconsider their stance and hand him a contract extension.

However, Atletico have identified the Spanish midfielder as a top target for the summer and are looking to prise him away from their arch-rivals.

Los Blancos are not planning to proceed with contract talks as they want to focus on the rest of the season.

Ceballos has often insisted he is willing to commit his future at Santiago Bernabeu, but he could change his stance if he is not guaranteed an important role.

There are also questions over the Spaniard’s future amid Madrid’s interest in Jude Bellingham and Gabri Veiga this summer.

Similarly, the futures of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have been plunged into doubt, with their contracts expiring this summer.

A one-year extension is on the table for Modric, who has expressed his desire to continue with Madrid.
