Chelsea disappointed with Thomas Tuchel following Anthony Barry comments

Chelsea are disappointed in their former manager Thomas Tuchel following his comments at his Bayern Munich unveiling, according to The Telegraph.

The German manager thanked his assistant coaches for quickly organising themselves to join him at the Bavarian club. He then stated that he would like to add Anthony Barry from Chelsea.

Those comments have not gone down well in England, with Chelsea directors angry at the publicised approach, especially as Bayern have not made an offer for Barry.

Barry joined Chelsea from Wigan Athletic, where he worked as an assistant to Paul Cook.

Tuchel is a fan of Barry and wants to take him to Germany. Barry has just joined the Portugal national team set-up with Roberto Martinez after working together for Belgium.

Barry previously worked as part of the Republic of Ireland’s coaching staff. Chelsea rate him highly and he is one of the retained staff from Tuchel’s era.

The London club knew Bayern would approach them for the 36-year-old, but they did not expect to hear it at Tuchel’s unveiling.

Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali sacked Tuchel in September 2022, citing differing opinions with the Champions League-winning manager.

Boehly clarified that it was not about the results but the club’s direction. They moved to Brighton & Hove Albion, paying a record sum to take manager Graham Potter from them.

Chelsea could face the Bavarians if they win their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid. Bayern must also beat Manchester City.

Despite Bayern’s public push for Barry, he is under contract at Stamford Bridge. Even if the St George’s Park graduate wants to move to Die Rekordmeister, they must negotiate with Chelsea.
