Barcelona remain relaxed amid UEFA’s investigation of Negreira case

UEFA have opened an investigation into Barcelona regarding the infamous Negreira case.

The scandal has been big news in recent weeks, with Barca accused of making illegal payments worth around €7.3 to Jose Maria Negreira, a former vice-president of the Spanish referees’ technical committee.

La Liga president Javier Tebas previously claimed that it wouldn’t be possible to sanction Barcelona, labelling the offence as time-barred. However, Tebas has reported escalated the matter.

UEFA’s statement read: “In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have today been appointed to conduct an investigation regarding a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework by FC Barcelona in connection with the so-called ‘Caso Negreira’.

“Further information regarding this matter will be made available in due course.”

Barcelona could face severe implications, including a potential ban from the European competitions if found guilty.

The worst scenario for the Catalans is the possible involvement of FIFA.

Barca are composed about the situation and are ready to cooperate with UEFA in the investigation, as reported by SPORT.

The Catalan giants also believe the investigation carried out by UEFA is not a disciplinary file.

However, the biggest stumbling block on Barca’s side will be their complicated relationship with UEFA due to the Spanish club’s involvement in the proposed European Super League (ESL).

Barca have been rocked by off-field controversies lately, from ESL to their economic crisis and now the Negreira case.
