Arsenal set to face MLS All-star team coached by Wayne Rooney in US summer tour

Arsenal will face a Major League Soccer (MLS) All-star team coached by Wayne Rooney during their tour of the United States this summer.

The Gunners will play the game at Audi Field in Washington DC on July 19 as they prepare for the 2023/24 campaign.

Tickets will go on sale from March 28. Arsenal hope to get a run-out against strong opposition with further plans in the works.

Sporting Director Edu said (via Arsenal’s website): “Our match against MLS All-Stars in July is a great opportunity for Mikel (Arteta) and the squad to prepare ahead of the new season, facing strong opposition.

“We’re currently working on our pre-season plans and we look forward to announcing further details soon.”

Arteta added: “It’s great that we’re playing against the MLS All-Stars in Washington DC in July.

“Our US tour last summer was very good preparation for the season, and we’re looking forward to once again visiting our amazing supporters in the US.

“The match against the MLS All-Stars will be a good test ahead of the 2023/24 season.”

Arsenal will carry the Premier League title on that North American tour if everything goes according to plan.

The Gunners currently top the Premier League, eight points ahead of Manchester City. However, City have a game in hand and the two sides still have to face each other at the Etihad Stadium.

The season has not been all smooth sailing for Arsenal. They crashed out of the Europa League in the round of 16 following a loss to Sporting CP on penalties.

Despite the defeat, Arsenal fans will be delighted if the season ends with the club crowned Premier League champions.
