Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison picks up injury in 3-3 draw with Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 3-3 draw by Southampton on Saturday in a blow to their chances of finishing in the top four.

Spurs not only dropped two crucial points, but they also lost Brazilian forward Richarlison to an injury.

The 25-year-old started the game but was withdrawn after three minutes.

Dejan Kulusevski replaced Richarlison, but he was inconsolable as he left the pitch in tears.

Tottenham were 3-1 up with 15 minutes left on the clock despite the Brazilian’s absence.

However, Southampton scored twice and left it late to secure a vital draw in their race to stave off relegation.

Spurs remain fourth in the Premier League after 28 games, but they missed a chance to extend their lead over the chasing pack.

Newcastle are two points behind Antonio Conte’s side, but they have two games in hand.

Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion will also fancy their chances of overtaking Tottenham in the table after today’s result.

The Reds are seven points behind them with two games in hand, while the Seagulls are also seven points behind, but they still have three games to play.

Spurs need all their top players available ahead of the crucial run-in.

Richarlison is expected to withdraw from this month’s international friendly games.

It has not been determined for how long he will be missing, but scans should be carried out soon.

Richarlison has featured in 19 league games since he joined Tottenham from Everton in the summer.

He is yet to score but has made three assists. However, he has scored twice in eight appearances across other competitions.

Despite his goal drought in the Premier League, he remains a key player for Spurs and they will hope to have him back as soon as possible.
