Chelsea star Mason Mount has hired a new representative to handle his future amid talks of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
According to the Daily Mail, the England international has appointed Neil Fewings from Roof to carry out dragged negotiations with the Blues over a contract extension.
Mount is about to enter the final 12 months of his deal in west London, but despite kickstarting extension talks with the club early in the season, they’ve yet to find an agreement.
The talks have reached an impasse, with Chelsea reportedly reluctant to improve their initial bid, communicating to the player that they’ve ‘made their final offer.’
Mount’s father, Tony, has been in charge of his son’s well-being over the past 18 months after quitting his previous management company, Stellar Football, to take care of Mason’s future.
However, Chelsea’s firm stance in long-standing negotiations has forced the pair to seek professional assistance as the 24-year-old midfielder now considers departing his boyhood club.
Despite the standstill, the highly-rated playmaker has been a regular first-team fixture in Graham Potter’s set-up this season, collecting 23 Premier League appearances.
But unless Potter’s employers change their current attitude, Mount could be on his way out of the Bridge at the end of the season.
Where could Mount go?
Liverpool and Newcastle United have been on Mount’s tail for quite a while, with Manchester United recently joining the race.
Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for a new creative midfielder after the Reds’ thoroughly underwhelming season brought Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson under heavy scrutiny.
The Magpies are also in the race amid Eddie Howe’s relentless effort to guide them to Champions League qualification for the first time in two decades, but it’s hard to imagine Mount moving to St James’ Park.
It leaves Man United as the only other genuine candidate to keep the Englishman in the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag has to inject fresh blood into his ageing midfield department, even more so as Fred’s future at Old Trafford remains up in the air.
Mount received Gareth Southgate’s call-up for England’s 2024 European Championship qualifiers in March, but he won’t join the national squad due to injury, according to Potter.
