West Ham face Gent – Europa Conference League quarter-final draw

The quarter-final fixtures of the Europa Conference League have been confirmed following the completion of the round of 16 games yesterday.

The quarter-finals will be on April 13 and 20, the semi-finals on May 11 and 18, and the final on Wednesday, June 7, at the Eden Arena in Prague, Czech Republic.

West Ham United forced their way into the last eight with a victory over Cypriot side AEK Larnaca.

They beat them 2-0 in Cyprus before sealing qualification with an emphatic 4-0 victory yesterday.

Despite battling relegation in the Premier League, the Hammers have held their own in Europe.

Their last European trophy came in 1965, and they will hope they can get something from a very troubled season.

West Ham will face Belgium side Gent in the quarter-finals after the Belgians defeated Istanbul Basaksehir in the previous round.

The Belgians drew the first leg of their tie, but Nigerian wonderkid Gift Orban netted a quick hat-trick in Turkey to secure a convincing 4-1 win.

The Hammers will be wary of the in-form striker, who is having an incredible breakout campaign.

Fiorentina also sealed a comfortable win against Sivasspor to book their place against Polish side Lech Poznan and the Italians will consider themselves favourites.

It won’t be easy because Poznan are unbeaten in nine Conference League games. They have also kept clean sheets in their last five consecutive games.

INEOS-owned Ligue 1 club OGC Nice beat Sheriff Tiraspol for a place in the quarter-finals.

Terem Moffi and Gaetan Laborde gave them the lead yesterday before Abdoul Tapsoba pulled one back for the Moldovan club. But Nice sealed the tie in the second half with another goal.

They will now face Swiss powerhouse Basel, who needed penalties to secure their place in this round.

Islam Slimani has been a hero for Anderlecht since the departure of Fabio Silva. He finished a Michael Murillo cross in the 73rd minute as the Brussels side pulled off a shock in Spain.

Anderlecht will face another side that pulled off a surprise. AZ Alkmaar knocked out Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio and they will fancy their chance against Les Mauves.
