Borussia Dortmund want to open contract negotiations with attacking midfielder Julian Brandt, according to SportBild.
The German international has been one of Dortmund’s best players this season. After struggling for consistency for much of his time with the club, he has come into his own.
Brandt has bagged eight goals and four assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances this season. He has one goal and one assist in the Champions League.
His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with Premier League clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing him this summer.
Brandt is entering the final year of his deal with BVB. There is a fear that he could consider a departure from the club.
The Premier League reportedly appeals to him, as he feels he will adapt quickly due to the presence of his closest friend – Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.
The pair broke through from the Bayer Leverkusen academy into the first team. They are friends and have been in contact since Havertz joined the London club.
Brandt is currently recovering from the muscular injury he suffered during his side’s clash with Chelsea in the Champions League. The 26-year-old limped off in the early moments of the game.
He wants to recover to help BVB in their chase for a first Bundesliga title in 11 years. They dropped vital points in the derby versus Schalke 04 last weekend, handing Bayern Munich the advantage in the title race.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl is scheduling talks with Brandt about a new contract. They will have to speed things up because summer is fast approaching.
Kehl also has to negotiate with Jude Bellingham as he hopes to keep him from the numerous suitors that will approach them.
