Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber has continued to prove his quality this term, and Premier League clubs are watching.
Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the Netherlands international, which speaks volumes.
Timber is one of the best centre-backs under the age of 21, and his heroics at the World Cup in Qatar caught people’s attention.
The Ajax star featured in two group games and two knockout fixtures as Argentina dumped Oranje out in the quarter-finals.
Timber partnered Virgil van Dijk in central defence, but the Dutch could not progress further.
The Liverpool centre-back brings loads of experience and quality to the table.
However, the Netherlands need a new partnership at the back if they want to start doing better.
Timber and Matthijs de Ligt should be their first-choice centre-back pairing.
Bayern Munich advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain last week.
Despite putting in a top-notch performance in attack, De Ligt’s outstanding displays at the back saved them.
The 23-year-old made a stunning goal-line clearance to save Yann Sommer’s blushes with the scores still goalless.
It proved vital at the end as Bayern scored twice afterwards to win 3-0 on aggregate.
The former Juventus man has been brilliant for the Bundesliga club and has been better than Van Dijk.
Timber has made the right side of the national team’s central defence his, and the other starting berth should belong to De Ligt.
Van Dijk has been below par this term and for a couple of months.
The 31-year-old has to make way for his Bayern counterpart in the Netherlands’ starting XI.
