Bruno Fernandes could miss out on Man United permanent captaincy after leaving teammates irritated

Bruno Fernandes could miss out on becoming Manchester United’s permanent captain, reports the Daily Mail.

The Portuguese midfielder has worn the armband anytime Harry Maguire starts on the bench.

The English centre-back has been linked with a summer exit.

Maguire has fallen out of favour and could seek a departure in search of regular playing time.

Fernandes is a strong contender to become captain permanently if the ex-Leicester City star leaves.

However, his recent antics could put him out of favour. His reactions during Sunday’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool have been widely criticised.

Fernandes pushed linesman Adam Nunn and also failed to applaud the fans after the game.

He also clutched his face when Ibrahima Konate caught him in the chest.

Those theatrics have not done his chances of becoming Man United captain any good.

Some of his teammates have questioned whether Fernandes has the right attributes to lead them.

The Red Devils ace is constantly whinging, and his manner at times is unbefitting of a captain.

Many at the club were irritated by his behaviour on the pitch on Sunday.

They feel Raphael Varane, who urged the players to recognise the fans, David de Gea or Casemiro are better suited to the role.

Such decisions are often decided by the manager and players.

Erik ten Hag and the squad members will likely nominate and vote for who they want as a captain.

However, it will all depend on the future of Maguire. He could opt to remain at the club and fight for his chances.
