There is now a 50/50 chance that Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham will stay at the club beyond this summer, according to Bild.
BVB believe that if they give Bellingham a salary increase, they can convince him to stay at the club.
The midfielder is currently on €6 million per year, but the club would like to offer him €15 million to ward off interest from suitors.
Dortmund are eager to beat Chelsea in their round of 16 Champions League match tonight to gain additional funds to fund a new deal for Bellingham.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently said he would try to sign him up for a new contract before the end of the season.
Despite his young age, the 19-year-old has become an integral cog in Edin Terzic’s side, even captaining the club in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Bellingham is their drive in midfield. He is a massive part of a squad that is second in the Bundesliga, level on points with Bayern Munich.
They also have one leg in the Champions League quarter-finals. They travel to Stamford Bridge to face struggling Chelsea with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
Bellingham is reportedly Real Madrid’s top target in the summer transfer window. They want to revamp their midfield and have the England international on their radar.
However, they are reluctant to pay Dortmund’s €150 million asking price. They are reportedly only ready to go as high as €120m.
Mega-rich English clubs are also interested in securing his services including Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
If Dortmund decide to sell, they will encourage a bidding war to collect a premium on their prized asset.
