PSG star Neymar to miss three months with surgery scheduled on ankle

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar will undergo surgery on his right ankle.

The Brazilian sprained the ankle on February 19 during the 4-3 league win over Lille.

PSG medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence.

Neymar has been regularly injured in the right ankle and the surgery will come in handy.

The Ligue 1 club claim it will take three to four months before the 31-year-old can return to training.

Neymar is effectively ruled out of action this season as he will be unable to train until June or July.

It is a big blow for PSG and the player himself. He has dreamt of winning the Ballon d’Or for years, and he joined Les Parisiens to make it happen.

The former Barcelona star will not be in contention for the prize this year as he is set to miss the business end of the campaign.

PSG will have to retain the Ligue 1 and challenge for the Champions League title without him.

They play Bayern Munich in the return leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday.

Christophe Galtier’s side lost 1-0 in the first leg last month at the Parc des Princes.

PSG face an uphill task in a bid to turn the tie around at the Allianz Arena.

They will have to majorly rely on Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in attack.

Neymar has netted 18 goals and 13 assists across all competitions for the club this term.

Being without a player of such exquisite quality and effectiveness is a huge blow.
