Inter Milan are targeting a move for Victor Lindelof as they brace themselves up for the departure of Milan Skriniar, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Skriniar has reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to join them in the summer as a free agent, but Les Parisiens are looking to bring forward the deal.
Inter had earlier intended to tie Skriniar down to a new contract but as revealed by his agent Roberto Sistici, the Slovakian has been put up for sale.
“The truth is that the decision to put Milan Skriniar on the transfer market was taken by Inter over the summer, not by the player,” Sistici told Telenord (h/t Football Italia).
“It was a decision from the club that led to negotiations between Inter and PSG, which obviously we were informed of.”
Amid the uncertainty surrounding Skriniar’s immediate future, Inter have begun their search for defensive reinforcement and now seek to bring Lindelof to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Since the appointment of Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager, Lindelof has fallen below Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the pecking order, starting just four of 20 league games this term.
However, United do not plan on letting him go as the Red Devils want to avoid being left light at the back in their quest for success across four different competitions.
This could see Inter turn their attention to Lille’s Tiago Djalo but like Lindelof, Djalo’s current employers are also keen to retain his services for the time being at least.
With just three days left before the end of the January transfer window, Inter are fast running out of time to secure a replacement for Skriniar and the Nerazzurri may be forced to keep hold of their captain until the summer.
The 27-year-old missed his side’s 2-1 victory over Cremonese yesterday through suspension but he could return to the starting XI for Tuesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final clash against Atalanta.
