Roberto Firmino to become a free agent this summer

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino will become a free agent this summer when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to Sky Sport Germany.

The 31-year-old’s agent Roger Wittmann previously said talks with Liverpool were progressing, but the player has decided to take his talents elsewhere.

Firmino joined the Reds in 2015 from TSG Hoffenheim for £29 million. He helped Liverpool win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

He has bagged 107 goals and 78 assists in 352 appearances for the Merseyside club. He became the top-scoring Brazilian striker in Premier League history in 2019. He has netted 78 EPL goals.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp converted him from an exciting attacking midfielder to a dynamic striker.

The 55-year-old is a big fan of the player. He wanted him to stay and urged the club to offer him a new contract.

However, Firmino wants to leave the club after falling down the pecking order. He informed Klopp today that he will not renew his contract and will look for a new club at the end of the season.

Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez last summer and Cody Gakpo in the winter transfer window. These signings have pushed the Brazil international out of the first-team picture.

Despite not being the first choice and struggling with injuries, Firmino has scored nine goals and assisted four this season. He will have some top clubs queueing for his signature as he still has something to offer.

A move to Italy or Germany may be on the cards for the man affectionately known by Liverpool fans as ‘Bobby’.
