Chelsea remain interested in Everton’s Amadou Onana

Chelsea approached Everton for midfielder Amadou Onana in January and he is still on the club’s radar, according to football.london.

The Blues were looking for other midfield options as their talks with Benfica for Enzo Fernandez had initially broken down.

However, Chelsea could not get a deal done. They subsequently signed Fernandez from the Portuguese giants, but have retained their interest in interest in Onana.

Chelsea still need a holding midfielder to allow Fernandez to push up the pitch. They have played him deep and he has not influenced games as much as he can.

The club reportedly have an eye on Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Declan Rice as midfield targets this summer. Jude Bellingham is also on their radar.

Onana joined Everton last summer. Despite some flaws, he has impressed in his first season in the Premier League.

He is a fierce tackler and his 6ft 5ins frame makes him a dominant force aerially and on the ground.

Onana still has to work on moving the ball quickly. He must also work on his concentration in the defensive and build-up phases.

Despite the flaws, there is so much talent to unearth with Onana. The 21-year-old said he would like to play for one of the world’s best clubs in five years, and it is not a far-fetched dream.

The Belgian international has four years left on his deal with Everton, but they are 18th in the Premier League.

Despite a mini-revival under new manager Sean Dyche, the Toffees are still in danger of going down.

If they drop into the Championship they will lose several stars, and top clubs will be eyeing Onana.
