Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Preview – Prediction, how to watch & potential line-ups

Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are set to lock horns in a blockbuster Bundesliga top-four six-pointer at Signal Iduna Park on Friday evening.

Julian Brandt’s first-half goal fired high-flying Die Borussen to a 1-0 win at bottom-half TSG Hoffenheim last weekend, maintaining their flawless competitive record in 2023 (W9).

Edin Terzic’s men have won all seven league outings since the Bundesliga resumed after the World Cup break to go level on points with pacesetters Bayern Munich.

Vying for a first top-flight title in over a decade, Dortmund will have to prove their credentials against a Leipzig side they lost to 3-0 in the reverse fixture in September.

Although they’ve not been as convincing as their rivals in the new calendar year, back-to-back league triumphs in the lead-up to this encounter have helped the visitors close the gap on the summit to four points.

After taking down fellow top-half tenants Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt in the last two league matches, Marco Rose returns to his former stomping ground seeking revenge.

Dortmund sacked the 46-year-old last May, which makes this clash personal for the Leipzig boss.

Match Preview

Borussia Dortmund

Signal Iduna Park has been an unpleasant environment for visiting teams this season, with Dortmund clocking eight wins in ten Bundesliga home games (D1, L1).

Connoisseurs of action-packed football have enjoyed Die Borussen’s recent home league fixtures, as all three in 2023 have seen 5+ goals and both sides on the scoresheet.

Another ‘goal-friendly’ contest is well on the cards, with each of Dortmund’s last five home league meetings with Leipzig adhering to the abovementioned scenario.

RB Leipzig

Leipzig took Signal Iduna Park by storm last season, strolling to an overwhelming 4-0 triumph and could win consecutive Bundesliga away matches against Dortmund for the first time in history.

If there’s a team able to take Die Borussen off their perch, it’s Die Roten Bullen, who, in addition to going unbeaten on their last seven league travels (W5, D2), scored at least three goals four times in that run.

After failing to keep a clean sheet in their first nine Bundesliga away games of the season, the visitors have managed back-to-back shutouts on the road ahead of this trip.
