Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic targeting historic feat in Tuesday’s Derby della Mole

Marquee Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic could make history on Tuesday night when the record-time Serie A champions take on cross-city rivals Torino.

According to Eurosport, the Serbia international could become only the fourth Bianconeri player to score in both seasonal league encounters against the Granata.

Vlahovic’s second-half strike in the reverse fixture helped Juventus see their eternal rivals off 1-0 in the first Derby della Mole of the season in mid-October.

Having only recently recovered from a long-term injury, the 23-year-old has yet to rediscover his scoring touch, drawing a blank in three of his four league outings in 2023.

Despite the ex-Fiorentina star’s patchy form in February, he could join a distinguished group of Juventus players to find the net in both top-flight games against Torino.

Italy legend Gianluca Vialli was the first Bianconeri man to find the net in both Derby della Mole games in a single Serie A season, doing so in 1995/96.

Over 20 years later, Gonzalo Higuain reached the same milestone in 2016/17 before non-other than Cristiano Ronaldo became the third and final Juventus performer to make this feat in 2018/19.

Joining this selected club could serve as a powerful motive, with Vlahovic already lagging a staggering 11 goals behind Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who tops the scoring charts in Serie A.

Not long ago, Massimiliano Allegri’s hopes of extending his side’s formidable 17-game unbeaten H2H record against Torino would solely rest upon the Serb’s delivery.

However, veteran ace Angel Di Maria has taken the spotlight away from Vlahovic, growing into the most influential figure at the Allianz Stadium in 2023.

The Argentine’s hat-trick inspired Juventus to a 3-0 win at Nantes in the return leg of their Europa League first-round knockout tie, only days after he scored a long-range screamer in a 2-0 beating of Spezia.
