RB Leipzig complete signing of Salzburg midfielder Nicolas Seiwald

RB Leipzig have reached an agreement with RB Salzburg over the signing of talented midfielder Nicolas Seiwald, according to their official website.

Die Rotten Bullen will reportedly pay their sister club around €20 million for Seiwald, who has penned a five-year contract and will move to Red Bull Arena ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 21-year-old joined Salzburg from its reserve team Liefering in 2020 and has since made significant progress, playing a pivotal role in back-to-back Austrian Bundesliga title wins.

The Austrian international can play in a variety of midfield roles. His defensive statistics stand out the most.

“I have spent the entirety of my career so far at Salzburg, starting in their U9 team,” Seiwald said. “The last 13 years in Salzburg have been fantastic.

“I will enjoy each and every day I have left here and give it my all until the end of the season. My aim is to leave Salzburg as an Austrian champion.

“After that, I’m really looking forward to a new challenge at a fantastic club. It will be an important step in my career, and I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Seiwald has been viewed as a replacement for Konrad Laimer, who has agreed to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the summer.

Laimer has been a key cog in Leipizig’s midfield over the years, and his compatriot Seiwald has all the qualities to fill the void.

Leipzig are also looking for attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window and have identified Lille striker Jonathan David as one of their top targets.
