Newcastle scouting Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott ahead of summer swoop

Newcastle United have been running the rule over Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott, reports the Mirror.

The Magpies scouts are regularly watching the 19-year-old ahead of a potential summer move.

Scott has also been scouted by London clubs Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

The Championship midfielder can play across several positions in midfield and is wanted in the Premier League.

Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers had bids rejected for the teenage sensation last month.

Newcastle are eyeing more homegrown talents as they continue their rebuild, and Scott fits the bill.

The England under-20 international has five assists and one goal in 38 games for the Robins this term.

He bagged four goals and two assists in 38 Championship games last term.

Nigel Pearson’s side are 13th in the division, 11 points off the play-off spots.

Earning promotion looks out of reach and they are bracing themselves for bids for Scott.

Newcastle would have to fight off fierce competition to land the midfielder. However, finishing in the top four this term would boost their chances.

The availability of Champions League football makes any club attractive to players.

Newcastle are fifth in the Premier League after 23 games, with four points between them and fourth-placed Spurs. However, they do have two games in hand.

The Magpies reached the final of the Carabao Cup but lost 2-0 to Manchester United on Sunday.

The club’s improvement under manager Eddie Howe within the last 12 months has been remarkable.

Scott could be convinced that joining such a team on the rise could do his development a world of good.
