Liverpool have identified Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella as a potential target amidst their plans for a summer rebuild.
However, according to Calciomercato, the Reds will have to shell out €75 million to prise him away from the Serie A giants.
Inter will be reluctant to sell, but the Nerazzurri need to balance their books and could be convinced into making a deal, especially if a sizeable offer comes in.
Barella has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Italian top flight since switching Cagliari for Inter in the summer of 2020.
The Italy international has a wealth of experience under his belt, having racked up 19 goals and 38 assists in 221 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
He has remained an important figure under Simone Inzaghi this season, with six goals and seven assists in 30 games across all competitions.
Barella would be the perfect addition to Liverpool as he embodies the characteristics of a typical Jurgen Klopp midfielder.
The 26-year-old box-to-box midfielder is cultured in possession and adept at contributing in attack as he is when defending and would slot seamlessly into Liverpool’s midfield three.
Liverpool’s primary target for midfield reinforcement is Borussia Dortmund’s young sensation Jude Bellingham. But the Reds could struggle to sign the youngster with Manchester City and Real Madrid also in the race.
Dortmund have not given up on keeping Bellingham for at least one more season, but the England international is leaning towards a move away from Signal Iduna Park next summer.
The Bundesliga giants have already begun their search for a replacement which signals they may have resolved to lose Bellingham in the summer.
Liverpool are major contenders for Bellingham’s signature, but Dortmund’s valuation could prove too much for the Anfield club to handle, leaving Barella as a viable option.
