Ansu Fati suffers knee injury in Barcelona training

Barcelona have announced that Ansu Fati suffered a knee injury in training today and will miss the club’s game against Almeria on Sunday.

The injury is a blow for the Catalans, as they are already without Pedri, Gavi and Ousmane Dembele.

“The first team player Ansu Fati has suffered a bruised knee in Friday’s training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper,” Barcelona announced on their official website.

“The striker is unavailable for selection, and his recovery will dictate his return to action.”

Fati will undergo more tests tomorrow to determine how long he will be out and the games he will miss. After tomorrow’s tests, they will predict when he will return to action.

The only good news is that it is not a hamstring injury. The talented youngster has suffered knocks to his hamstring that have kept him out of action.

Due to his numerous injuries, Fati had been struggling for form at Barcelona, leading to minimal game time. Raphinha, Dembele and Ferran Torres are ahead of him in the pecking order.

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has even played Gavi on the left wing ahead of Fati, leading to rumours of an exit from the club, with Premier League clubs showing interest.

Sergi Roberto played as a left-winger ahead of Fati against Manchester United as they crashed out of the Europa League.

The 20-year-old came on for the final 15 minutes of his side’s 2-1 loss and barely made an impact during the cameo.

The fact the attacker was on the bench in a game where Barca needed attacking quality to help Robert Lewandowski is quite telling of his situation.

Barcelona hope Fati can return to training soon and help them for the remainder of the campaign. Despite crashing out of two European competitions, they remain top of La Liga.

They also have the Copa del Rey to fight for with a two-legged semi-final to come against rivals Real Madrid.
