Jordan Pickford set to sign new contract with Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is closing in on a new deal with the club, according to The Times.

Pickford had interest from several Premier League clubs but has snubbed them to continue his journey with the Toffees.

Pickford’s current deal runs out in 2024, and he was attracting interest from clubs looking for a new goalie.

Pickford is reportedly on Tottenham Hotspur’s list to replace Hugo Lloris this summer. Brentford keeper David Raya tops the shortlist.

Chelsea also have him on their radar this summer. They are preparing for the departure of one of Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy.

However, the 28-year-old will snub their interest and continue his six-year stay in Merseyside.

Pickford has made 222 appearances for Everton since joining from Sunderland. He has kept 59 clean sheets for the club in that time.

The Washington-born goalie has since become an England international, earning regular call-ups under Gareth Southgate since he debuted in 2017. He has 50 caps for the Three Lions.

He was part of the squad that reached the 2018 World Cup semi-final, the European Championship final in 2021, and the quarter-final of the 2022 World Cup.

News of Pickford’s renewal will excite Everton fans. Their club are currently 16th in the league and looking to push out of the relegation zone where former manager Frank Lampard left them.

New boss Sean Dyche has led them to two victories in their last three games. They are only one point above West Ham United in 18th, but they’ll cherish that lead.

Pickford kept clean sheets in those wins under Dyche. However, he made a howler to allow Mohamed Salah to score the opener in the Merseyside derby. His terrible positioning allowed the Egyptian to slam home as they lost.

Everton will want to see less of that in the forthcoming games. They welcome Aston Villa to Goodison Park this weekend, hoping to further push away from the deep end with three points.
