Inter Milan have re-opened negotiations with Lille to sign Tiago Djalo, according to Calciomercato.
Djalo, who came through Sporting and AC Milan’s youth academies, joined the Ligue 1 side in 2019 and quickly established himself as a promising talent.
The Portuguese has racked up 100 appearances for Lille since making his debut and has established himself as one of Paulo Fonseca’s most important players this term.
The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the biggest talents in the French top flight, and Inter are keen to snap him up ahead of next season.
The Nerazzurri’s interest in the defender began in the January transfer window when they ramped up their search for Milan Skriniar’s successor.
The Slovakia international is set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Inter tried to sign Djalo in January, but their €20 million offer was rejected, and the deal fell through with both sides failing to reach an agreement.
Inter CEO Guiseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio are keen on signing a new centre-back ahead of next season.
They have not given up on signing Djalo as the club is also gearing up to lose Stefan de Vrij, whose contract runs out at the end of the season.
Djalo has been impressive for Lille this season, racking up two goals and one assist in 24 appearances across all competitions.
Although Inter are financially handicapped due to their economic situation, the club are still willing to shell out a fee to snap up the Portuguese.
However, their current offer for the former Sporting man falls below their previous bid and also lower than Lille’s valuation.
The Nerazzurri are offering around €14m, which falls short of Lille’s €25m asking price for the defender, whose contract runs out in the summer of 2024.
Negotiations between both sides will continue, with Inter looking to agree a deal that will see the defender join at the end of the season.
