David Moyes handed boost as Maxwel Cornet returns to West Ham training

West Ham United have been handed an injury boost after Maxwel Cornet returned to training.

The Ivory Coast international winger joined the Hammers from Burnley last summer after the Clarets were relegated.

However, a calf injury has kept him out of action since October 1.

West Ham slipped to the drop zone after Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

They face Nottingham Forest on Saturday in a game manager David Moyes will be desperate to win.

The Scottish manager will update Cornet during his pre-match conference on Friday.

However, the 26-year-old is nearing full fitness after Sky Sports posted an update on Wednesday morning.

Reporter Gary Cotterill was at Rush Green to cover West Ham’s training, and he provided the fans with pleasing news.

“Another bit of good news, although you can’t see him out there unfortunately, is the return to training of Maxwel Cornet, who has been missing since October,” Cotterill said.

“That will be a boost for West Ham fans. We were hoping to see him out there. But he must be doing a bit of work elsewhere and joining in when the team do tactical stuff later. Just the warm-up stuff going on there as you can see.

“Because he was joining in with the training yesterday for the first time in quite some time.”

The former Lyon star has only played seven games across all competitions for West Ham this term.

He is yet to assist or score, but having him back in action would improve the club’s fortunes in the final third.

Cornet bagged nine league goals and one assist in 26 games for Burnley last term.

Unfortunately, the return was not enough to keep them up. He is facing another relegation battle and will be hungry to quickly get back to action.

Zouma could also return against Forest after he was pictured in training on Tuesday.

The French defender returned from a two-month absence due to knee surgery last month against Everton.

However, he suffered a small tear in his thigh in the first half of the game and returned to the injury sidelines.

Lucas Paqueta remains out with a shoulder injury, while Jarrod Bowen picked up a knock in the closing stages of the defeat against Spurs.
