Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte to miss Manchester City UCL clash against RB Leipzig

Manchester City will be without Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte for tomorrow’s game against RB Leipzig.

Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Germany to face the Bundesliga club in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Man City are favourites despite being away from home. However, they will have to secure their desired result without two of their key players.

Guardiola confirmed that De Bruyne and Laporte are unavailable for selection due to illness. The Belgian midfielder and Spanish defender missed Tuesday’s training session.

They have been omitted from Man City’s 22-man squad, with teenage duo Alexander Robertson and Shea Charles replacing them.

John Stones remains unavailable after injuring his hamstring in the FA Cup fourth-round win over Arsenal last month.

Man City still have enough depth in central defence despite being without two centre-backs. They will be able to call on Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji.

Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake can also play there having featured as full-backs this term.

The Germans could also be without Christopher Nkunku. The Chelsea-bound France international will be assessed over the coming hours.

Nkunku could only complete parts of Tuesday’s training session due to a muscle issue.

The Champions League have continually eluded Man City, and they will hope their fortunes improve this term.

A win tomorrow will put them in a comfortable position ahead of the second leg.

The Sky Blues were dumped out of the competition in the semi-final last term by Real Madrid.

They lost the final of the 2020-21 edition to Chelsea and will look to finally go one better this term.
