Sadio Mane resumes first-team training with Bayern Munich ahead of PSG

Bayern Munich attacker Sadio Mane has returned to first-team training with the club after being sidelined for three months.

He is targeting a return to competitive action against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League tie.

Mane suffered the injury in Bayern’s last game of 2022 against Werder Bremen. The Bavarians beat Bremen 6-1, but the Senegalese attacker went off injured.

Mane missed the 2022 World Cup. The Lions of Teranga got through the group stage without their talismanic captain but crashed out in the round of 16 following a defeat to England.

He returned to the pitch a few weeks ago and has been recovering. Mane has joined first-team training today as he looks set to make his first appearance on March 8.

It will be against PSG, who Bayern have a 1-0 lead over from the first leg in France. They dominated the Ligue 1 champions, and Kingsley Coman scored the only goal.

Kylian Mbappe changed the game’s complexion for PSG, adding more thrust, but it was not enough.

They face off at the Allianz Arena in 18 days with all to play for despite the tie edging slightly to Bayern with that first-leg win.

Mane will hope to make the bench for the game. A start may be too much to expect, but his presence in the squad will be a boost.

He joined Bayern this summer from Liverpool in a €50 million deal after six years with the Reds. The 30-year-old has blown hot and cold in his debut campaign.

Mane has bagged six goals and three assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances. The former Southampton man has netted three goals and one assist in the Champions League.

Nagelsmann has switched him between centre-forward and his preferred left-wing to help him adapt, but he has yet to produce his best form.

Mane will hope he can at least reach double digits in league goals before the end of the campaign. Next season will likely see more output from him as his underlying numbers are excellent.
