Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United Preview – Prediction, how to watch & potential line-ups

Sunday’s Premier League action signs out with an all-London match-up between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs’ mediocre season is slowly descending into chaos after Antonio Conte’s side slumped to a narrow 1-0 defeat at downtrodden Serie A champions AC Milan in midweek Champions League action.

An uneventful showing at the San Siro added insult to injury after Tottenham spurned an early 1-0 lead in an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at bottom-half Leicester City last weekend.

Conte must stem the bleeding if his men are to stay within touching distance of fourth-placed Newcastle United amid growing speculation linking the Italian manager with a return to his homeland.

Despite emerging as a potential candidate to take over the reins at Milan next summer, the former Inter Milan boss will see out the season in north London in all likelihood.

But Conte’s repeated statements of discontent have not fallen well with the Tottenham hierarchy, highlighting the importance of on-field results as the season enters the crunch period.

Surprise relegation candidates West Ham are looking to capitalise on their hosts’ rough patch after a decent three-game unbeaten league streak (W1, D2) steered them two points clear of the relegation zone.

David Moyes’ side hoped for a moment that they could take down Chelsea in last weekend’s London derby before VAR ruled out Tomas Soucek’s late goal in a dramatic 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

It was still a confidence boost for the Hammers, even though it left them at just one victory in seven Premier League matches since the season resumed on Boxing Day (D3, L3).

Match Preview

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham and West Ham shared the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate in the reverse fixture, meaning Spurs could go winless in both seasonal games against the Hammers in the Premier League for the second time in nine seasons.

Playing at home is unlikely to spark optimism in the Tottenham camp as they’ve suffered three defeats in their last five league outings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (W2), conceding 2+ goals four times.

After going down 2-0 to Arsenal in their last Premier League London derby at home, Spurs stare down the barrel of back-to-back losses in such match-ups for the first time since 2004.

West Ham United

It’s not like West Ham have gone from strength to strength in their recent top-flight travels across the capital, losing five consecutive London derbies outside the London Stadium.

Another reverse would see them lose six straight away league encounters across cross-town rivals for the first time since 2010, and based on their league form on the road, it’s a reasonable expectation.

Moyes’ men have won just one of their 11 Premier League games away from home this season (D3, L7) and are winless on their last nine league travels since toppling Aston Villa 1-0 in August.

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United Prediction

There may not be a better time all season for Moyes’ charges to pit their wits against bitter cross-town rivals.

West Ham’s mini-revival, coupled with Tottenham’s downturn in fortunes, gives the visitors legitimate chances of putting a dent in Conte’s bid to lead Spurs to another top-four finish.

Richarlison’s full recovery could help the home side get out of a rut, but we’re currently more inclined to back the Hammers to upset the odds on Sunday.
