Manchester United vs Leicester City Preview – Prediction, how to watch & potential line-ups

Manchester United’s attention quickly switches back to Premier League duties following a midweek trip to Barcelona as they welcome a resurgent Leicester City side to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Led by free-scoring forward Marcus Rashford, Erik ten Hag’s high-flyers overturned a 1-0 second-half deficit at Spotify Camp Nou on Thursday, only to be pegged back late in a dramatic 2-2 draw.

And while their mouth-watering Europa League knockout round play-off against runaway La Liga leaders remains wide open, there’s an outside chance for the Red Devils for a late title push in the Premier League.

Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were on the scoresheet as United trounced Leeds United 2-0 at Elland Road last weekend, whittling down the gap on top-placed Manchester City to five points.

Completing their first Premier League double over Leicester since 2019/20 following a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture would keep Man Utd hot on the trail of Man City and Arsenal.

Unfortunately for the hosts, Brendan Rodgers’ side have hit their stride just in time to make life difficult for the Theatre of Dreams outfit, winning back-to-back league games for the third time this season.

After a 4-2 humbling of Aston Villa in Birmingham a fortnight ago, the Foxes came from a goal down to dismantle Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at the King Power Stadium last weekend.

That victory alleviated growing fears that they could be drawn back into a frustrating relegation scrap, steering Leicester six points away from 18th-placed Everton at the start of this round.

Match Preview

Manchester United

Jadon Sancho’s first-half winner in the reverse fixture halted Man Utd’s dire run of four Premier League games against Leicester without winning (D2, L2).

Despite the Foxes’ mini-revival, the Red Devils are seemingly in a prime position to add to their 46-point tally in the Premier League, having run out winners in four of their last six home league H2Hs (D1, L1).

On top of their imperious H2H home form, ten Hag’s men have been relentless at Old Trafford of late, stitching together an outrageous 16-game unbeaten streak in all competitions on home turf (W14, D2).

Leicester City

In addition to coming from behind to win their last two Premier League matches, Leicester have gone unbeaten on back-to-back top-flight visits to Old Trafford (W1, D1) for the first time since the mid-70s.

Posting another victory against the odds would see Rodgers’ side win three league games on the spin for the first time since January 2021, but it’s far more complicated than it looks.

None of Leicester’s 11 Premier League away fixtures this season have finished as a draw (W4, L7), though the visitors have been on the receiving end on two of their last three travels (W1).

Fatigue could be catching up with Man Utd after an exhausting trip to Camp Nou, but the reverberating Old Trafford atmosphere could be a catalyst to carry ten Hag’s side to another precious league win.

Leicester have hit a purple patch of late, yet we expect the Red Devils to bring the Foxes back down to earth with a thumping victory.
