Barcelona dealt Pedri injury blow ahead of Europa League return leg against Man United

Barcelona have announced that Spanish midfielder Pedri has injured his right hamstring.

The 20-year-old was withdrawn from action in the 41st minute against Manchester United last night.

Pedri will be unavailable for selection until he recovers. He is expected to miss Sunday’s La Liga game against Cadiz.

The Barca sensation will also miss the second leg of the Europa League play-off. The Red Devils held Xavi’s side to a 2-2 draw last night and will fancy their chances at Old Trafford.

Barca will also be without Gavi for the game after he picked up a booking last night. Missing two of their key players this season against Erik ten Hag’s side will be a massive blow.

Pedri has notched six goals in 21 La Liga games this term. He has missed just one of their European games and Xavi will be scratching his head over the next course of action.

The Blaugrana manager is also without Sergio Busquets and Ousmane Dembele. Barca are thin in the middle of the park, with only three options available at the moment.

Frenkie de Jong and Franck Kessie will be expected to start at Old Trafford. Sergi Roberto is the other midfielder available but has primarily played at right-back in recent seasons.

Barcelona have been defensively solid in the domestic league but found life hard against Man United.

They struggled to contain Marcus Rashford despite Xavi’s concerns ahead of the game.

The Catalans play Real Madrid in the double-legged semi-final of the Copa del Rey next month. They will hope Pedri returns before then to boost their chances of winning.
