FA to investigate after Arsenal ‘fans’ hurl bottles at Kevin De Bruyne

The Football Association (FA) is investigating an incident at the Emirates Stadium yesterday where bottles were thrown at Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, according to Sky Sports.

There were ugly scenes when the Belgian international went off and bottles were hurled towards him. The midfielder dodged them before joining his teammates on the bench.

Referee Anthony Taylor mentioned the incident in his match report.

This is not the first time this has occurred this season. ‘Fans’ that throw bottles at players are not true fans and only do their teams a disservice.

De Bruyne made fun of the situation, captioning images from the scenes with humour on his Instagram page.

A spokesperson for the Gunners said they would review CCTV footage of the event to find the culprits. They will impose sanctions on them.

De Bruyne had angered Arsenal fans with his superb performance against them. The 31-year-old opened the scoring following a mistake by Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The error allowed De Bruyne to lob Aaron Ramsdale. Arsenal fought back and were awarded a penalty that Bukayo Saka converted to level the scores.

However, Arsenal made far too many mistakes at the back, allowing Man City to punish them. Gabriel Magalhaes gave away the ball, and City pounced with a sweeping move that Jack Grealish finished.

Erling Braut Haaland sealed the three points and a 3-1 win for Pep Guardiola’s side to level both teams on 51 points. Man City top the table, but Arsenal have a game in hand.

The Gunners have now failed to win four in a row, and manager Mikel Arteta faces a fight to galvanise his pack for the title race.

Man City have shown their winning mentality by closing the gap on the London club.

Arsenal travel to face Aston Villa on Saturday before City visit Nottingham Forest later that day.
