Chelsea ace Raheem Sterling in race to be fit for Borussia Dortmund clash

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling could miss his side’s Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund tomorrow, reports The Athletic.

The England international missed training as he is undergoing further treatment and being closely monitored.

Sterling was unavailable for selection when Chelsea took on West Ham United last Saturday.

The 28-year-old suffered a kick to the knee in training towards the end of last week. The Blues drew 1-1 against the Hammers in Sterling’s absence.

It was Chelsea’s third straight draw, and they will be keen to get a win against Dortmund.

They were drawn against the Bundesliga club in the competition’s round of 16. The first-leg of the tie takes place at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.

Sterling travelled with the squad but is now facing a race against time to be involved. The former Manchester City star injured his hamstring against Pep Guardiola’s side earlier this month.

He returned to action in the goalless draw against Fulham last week.

Sterling has bagged six goals and three assists in 23 games across all competitions this term.

Manager Graham Potter could do with his services against the Germans. Chelsea need to pick up a great result tomorrow to boost their chances of advancing to the quarter-finals.

They are not short of options in attack, but Potter could rue leaving Noni Madueke out of his Champions League squad.

The winger started against West Ham last weekend with Sterling unavailable and was brilliant.

The January signing would have been a great option, with the former Liverpool ace doubtful for tomorrow.

Chelsea face Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and will hope Sterling is fully fit by then.
