Jimmy-Jay Morgan joins Chelsea in £3m deal from Southampton

England under-17 international striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan has joined Chelsea from Southampton, according to The Athletic.

The teenage sensation joins the Blues on a three-and-a-half-year contract for an initial £3 million.

Morgan will initially link up with Chelsea’s academy and hope to soon force his way into the senior team.

The 17-year-old was with the Stamford Bridge club as a schoolboy before joining the Saints in 2017. He is now back with Chelsea and is one to keep an eye on.

Morgan was in fine form for the Saints youth sides during the last 12 months. He bagged 27 goals for their under-16s last season and also scored 13 goals for the under-18s.

The young striker has scored six goals and weighed in with five assists in 13 games.

Morgan was unable to make his senior debut for Southampton and will have his work cut out for him at Chelsea.

The Blues have spent around £600m since Todd Boehly completed a takeover in May 2022.

Morgan will need to be on top of his game to convince manager Graham Potter of his quality.

He regularly trained with Southampton senior players. The teenager was in the Saints squads that faced Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup and Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

Morgan has scored nine goals in 15 games for the England youth teams and will be hungry to start featuring for Chelsea’s first-team.

The Blues lost 19-year-old Jude Soonsup-Bell to Tottenham Hotspur’s academy last month and Morgan has arrived as his replacement.
