£48m Guinea star is expected to leave Liverpool in the summer

Naby Keita will reportedly leave Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer, according to Sky Sport Germany.

The 27-year-old arrived at Anfield in 2018 in a £48 million deal from RB Leipzig. He was expected to be a big success but has failed to live up to expectations.

After making 33 appearances across all competitions in his first season, the Guinean has struggled with several fitness issues and inconsistent performances over the following years.

He has made 127 senior appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, registering 11 goals and seven assists.

Keita has started only two Premier League matches this season, with a hamstring injury keeping him sidelined for most of this campaign.

His current contract at Anfield expires in the summer, but Liverpool are unlikely to hand him a new deal.

Several clubs are interested in signing him including Galatasaray, but the midfielder will not sign for them.

Best for both parties

Keita failed to make a significant impact at Liverpool after they splashed out a considerable sum to secure his services in 2018.

He is unlikely to be missed by the Reds’ fans if he leaves in the summer.

The Merseyside giants will be disappointed to let him leave without receiving a transfer fee.

However, the move will help free up a significant chunk of the wage bill.

Keita will likely be more suited to other European leagues which are not as physically demanding as the Premier League.
