Everton are unlikely to sign Spanish midfielder Isco on a free transfer, according to the Independent.
The Toffees reportedly considered a move for the former Real Madrid star but doubt whether he has the physical profile needed to thrive in the English top flight.
Isco has been a free agent since mutually terminating his contract with Sevilla in December last year.
He looked very close to joining Union Berlin last month, but a deal didn’t materialise.
Everton endured a highly disappointing January transfer window as they failed to add a single player to their ranks.
The Merseyside club were close to landing Arnaut Danjuma after striking a deal with Villarreal. But in a dramatic twist, the attacker joined Tottenham Hotspur.
They also targeted a host of other forwards in January, only to fail in their attempts.
Everton were reportedly ready to spend a considerable transfer fee for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher. But the 22-year-old made it clear he wasn’t interested in a move to Goodison Park.
Everton also agreed a fee for Kamaldeen Sulemana, but the Ghana international preferred to join Southampton.
Premier League survival unlikely for Everton
The Toffees lost Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United in a deal worth up to £45 million in January.
However, they failed to reinvest that money by landing a new forward.
Bournemouth, Leeds United, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all added new recruits to their ranks in their bid to beat the drop.
Sean Dyche is a top manager, but the task of keeping Everton in the Premier League looks beyond him.
