Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe is doubtful for the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich due to injury, as reported by L’Equipe.
The French forward limped off the field early in the first half against Montpellier last night with a suspected ankle injury. Not long before, he missed back-to-back penalties.
Les Parisiens eventually won the game 3-1, with Fabian Ruiz, Lionel Messi and Warren Zaire-Emery scoring.
However, Mbappe’s injury took the shine off the result, and PSG are sweating over his fitness with the round of 16 tie against Bayern on the horizon.
The 23-year-old has been in extraordinary form this season, netting 26 goals in all competitions at club level.
He also stole the headlines for scoring eight goals at the Qatar World Cup, helping France secure a runners-up finish and winning the Golden Boot award.
PSG are drawn against the toughest opponent in Bayern for the round of 16 clash, with the first leg set to be played on February 15.
It would be a massive setback for the French champions if Mbappe fails to recover in time.
Sergio Ramos also followed Mbappe to the treatment room with an injury in the first half and was replaced by Renato Sanches.
However, PSG manager Christophe Galtier is relaxed about Mbappe’s situation as he claimed that the Frenchman’s injury is not as severe as everyone thinks.
Les Parisiens’ form tailed off slightly since the restart of the Ligue 1 as they managed only two wins in five games before returning to their best with an emphatic victory against Montpellier.
