Arsenal announce the arrival of Jorginho

Arsenal have completed the acquisition of Jorginho from Chelsea for a £10 million fee with a further £2m in add-ons.

The midfielder will move to north London on an initial 18-month contract which has the option to be extended by a year.

Having failed in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal wasted no time in turning their attention to Jorginho and they have now gotten a deal over the line in just under 24 hours.

Jorginho, who is Arsenal’s third January addition, will wear the no.20 jersey as he embarks upon a fresh chapter in his career.

“I’m very excited for this new challenge, and I just can’t wait to be on the pitch to be honest,” Jorginho told Arsenal’s official website.

“Everything has happened so fast – I was a bit surprised, but I took the opportunity of this amazing challenge.

“It’s an important shirt. It’s an amazing club, a big one, and I’m really excited and happy to be here.”

With Arsenal currently sitting top of the league table midway through the season, Jorginho could become a Premier League champion in the next four months.

The Italian is confident of his ability to help Mikel Arteta’s men continue their hunt for glory.

“I’ll try to just bring positive energy, hard work and my experience to help the team,” he added.

“I try just to help with the experience I’ve had in my time with the other clubs and anything I can do just to help the team to achieve more and more – that’s my target.

“All I can promise is that I’m going to give my all to represent this club.”

Jorginho will be targeting a debut outing on Saturday when Arsenal make the trip to Goodison Park to lock horns with Everton.
