Man United open talks with Bayern to sign Marcel Sabitzer

After learning the extent of Christian Eriksen’s injury, Manchester United have been plunged into the market to try and find a replacement for the former Tottenham Hotspur man.

According to Sport1 Chief reporter Kerry Hau, the Red Devils have now opened negotiations with Bayern Munich looking to sign Marcel Sabitzer.

Financially crippled by uncertainty over the future ownership of the club, United are looking to strike a deal that will see them take Sabitzer on loan for the remainder of the season.

The player is reportedly open to the idea of a switch to Old Trafford, but negotiations have only just begun, so it remains to be seen if an agreement can be reached before the 11.00 pm deadline.

Eriksen, who joined United on a free transfer after leaving Brentford last summer, has proven to be a shrewd acquisition, with the Denmark international playing a pivotal part in United’s push for the top four.

He has formed a strong partnership with fellow summer arrival Casemiro, with the duo complimenting each other in the middle of the park.

However, following a horrific tackle from Andy Carroll during United’s FA Cup tie with Reading, which ended 3-1, Eriksen has been ruled out for at least three months.

While Erik ten Hag has admitted his side will have to soldier on following Eriksen’s injury, there are not many players in his squad that can offer what Eriksen does in midfield.

On that basis, bringing in a midfielder to help maintain their terrific form in the second half of the season is a no-brainer.

Sabitzer looks to be the man to fill that void, with United locked in talks for the Austria international, who is also attracting interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The 28-year-old only joined Bayern at the start of last season but has failed to establish himself as a regular starter despite reuniting with Julian Nagelsmann at the Allianz Arena.

United have also been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid’s versatile forward Yannick Carrasco, and they have been in touch with the player’s representatives.
