Arsenal eye January move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho

Arsenal are considering a move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho before the January transfer window ends, reports The Athletic.

The Gunners want another holding midfielder, but getting Brighton & Hove Albion ace Moise Caicedo has proven impossible.

Arsenal are now exploring other options, including the Blues star.

Jorginho is out of contract at the end of the season, and Chelsea could be open to selling him. The Blues want to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez before the deadline.

Landing the Argentina international will further limit Jorginho’s playing chances and could force him out.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Sporting director Edu are long-term admirers of the 31-year-old Italy international.

He has featured in 25 games across all competitions this term, scoring three goals.

Jorginho is a brilliant passer of the ball and is a hugely experienced midfielder.

Arsenal need quality cover in midfield this term, and he is perfect for them.

He has helped Chelsea win the Champions League and Europa League since he joined them from Napoli in July 2018.

However, the Brazil-born midfielder has never won a league title, and a move to Arsenal could appeal to him.

Arteta has Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Albert Sambi Lokonga as his options in the holding midfield role.

However, the African duo has struggled with fitness at times, and the Belgian is still inexperienced.

Adding Jorginho to their ranks will be massive for the Gunners, and their fans will hope the move goes through.

The January transfer window shuts tomorrow, and Arsenal need to quickly get everything sorted out and hope Chelsea get Fernandez.
