Tottenham Hotspur have made a verbal €25 million bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to German outlet Bild.
The north London giants had a quiet start to the January transfer window but look set to have a busy end with a potential spending spree.
They recently landed Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal while Pedro Porro is on the verge of signing for them from Sporting Lisbon.
Spurs have reportedly made a proposal of €25m for Hincapie, although it is unclear whether Leverkusen will accept the fee.
The Bundesliga outfit had a dismal start to the campaign but their form has been impressive lately with five straight league victories.
They can go seven points off the Champions League places with a win against Borussia Dortmund today.
Hincapie has been a key player for them, operating from central defence or at left-back and they are unlikely to sell him for cheap.
It could take a significant fee beyond Spurs’ proposal to persuade them to part ways with Hincapie before the transfer deadline.
If Spurs were to sign him, he would be a fantastic recruit as he is strong with his tackles, clearances and has a good aerial presence.
The 21-year-old needs to improve his discipline after a couple of dismissals this term, but he has plenty of potential.
Spurs are currently three points behind fourth-place Manchester United in the Premier League standings. The latter have a game in hand.
Antonio Conte’s side beat rivals Arsenal to the final Champions League spot last season and will be aiming to do something similar.
Their winter signings were pivotal to the impressive turnaround and Conte will be looking to replicate the feat with a couple of late arrivals.
