Newcastle set to sign West Ham right-back Harrison Ashby for £3m

Newcastle United have struck a deal with West Ham United to sign Harrison Ashby for £3 million, according to The Athletic.

The Magpies were close to signing the Scotland under-21 international last summer, but their deadline-day move failed.

West Ham also knocked back a bid from Newcastle for Harrison earlier this month.

However, both clubs have finally reached an agreement, and the youngster is set to undergo a medical on Monday.

Newcastle are yet to finalise personal terms with Harrison, but that should be sorted out soon.

The St. James’ Park club sees the 21-year-old as a suitable cover and competition for Kieran Trippier. The 32-year-old put pen to paper on a contract extension on Friday.

Newcastle are preparing for the future, and Harrison has what it takes to succeed the England international.

The Milton Keynes-born full-back has been with West Ham since he was nine. He made his first-team debut in September 2020 and has played seven games for the east London club.

Harrison has played just 16 minutes of Premier League football in the Hammers’ jersey.

He is behind Ben Johnson, Vladimir Coufal and Thilo Kehrer in David Moyes’ pecking order.

Newcastle currently have Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo as their other options at right-back.

However, the Swede is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and the Spaniard has played just three games across all competitions this term.

Manager Eddie Howe is famous for getting the best out of young players, and Ashby could blossom into a top star under his tutelage.

West Ham have already lost Craig Dawson during the January transfer window, and another defender appears set to depart.
